D.C. bill would extend dairy safety net

Vermont’s congressional delegation – U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy (D) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I) and Rep. Peter Welch(D)  – has introduced legislation to extend a U.S. taxpayer-funded safety net that helps dairy farmers ride out downturns in milk prices. Without action, the legislative trio claim, dairy farmers could face a severe drop in support from the MILC safety net by Sept 1.

Entergy wants state to pay nuke-fight legal fees

Entergy, the owner of the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant, wants the State of Vermont to pay $4.6 million in legal fees it incurred to fight off the state's attempt to shutdown the power station. A U.S. district judge ruled last month that Vermont has no legal jurisdiction over the atomic station under the U.S. Atomic Energy Act.
