School Nutrition Association of Vermont first Local Growers & Food Producers Show and School Food Policy Roundtable

Sen. Sanders to give lunchtime address

— The School Nutrition Association of Vermont (SNA-VT) will host the first annual Local Growers & Food Producers show for school meals as part of its annual professional development and awards conference at Shelburne Farms, Oct. 25.

October is National Farm to School month, and while Vermont schools are far ahead in terms of their commitment to using local foods in school meals, this will be the first opportunity for key local food growers and producers to display their products for school meal program managers and directors.

The evening awards ceremony will honor this year’s winners: the Serving Up Excellence award goes to Ruth Quintin, cook at Colchester Middle School; the Outstanding Achievement in Child Nutrition award goes to Meggen Hanna, Barstow Memorial School (Chittenden, Rutland County); the Hunger Free Vermont School Nutrition Innovation and Advocacy Award goes to Angelique Franzoni and Linda Kinney, Windham Northeast Supervisory Union; and the Excellence in School Nutrition Student Choice Award goes to Cher Anderson, The Compass School (Westminster Station, Windham County).
