— A landmark property at the intersection of Routes 4 and 100 in Killington has been purchased by a collective of local business owners with a common vision for the property.

Bill’s Country Store sold at auction recently to a group consisting of Howard Smith, Steve Durkee, Aris Spanos, Phil Black and Chris Karr. Smith cast the winning bid of $355,000 on behalf of the group.

The partnership was formed informally in an effort to secure the property, and is now in the process of working out the details of property ownership and usage.

“We are working all potential uses to develop a self-sustaining space for the Chamber of Commerce and the Town Welcome Center, including public restrooms,” said Chris Karr of the Killington Chamber of Commerce.

Built in 1977, the iconic red building known as Bill’s Country Store has 6,000 square feet of commercial space on the first floor, a 2,000 square-foot apartment on the second floor, a large basement and sits on 1.6 acres in a prime location at the base of the Killington Road.
