Men’s Snowboard Superpipe Final in Killington last week: 1.Louri Podladtchikov, of Switzerland, 96.75. 2. Louie Vito, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, 95.25, and 3. Matt Ladley, of Steamboat Springs, Colo., 89.00.
Killington Swiss snowboard competitor Louri Podladtchikov turned up the heat on the race for the Dew Cup last weekend in the men’s superpipe finals held at the Winter Dew Tour Pantech Invitational at Killington Resort.
“I didn’t expect this. I’m really excited to get to Snowbasin,” said Podladtchikov “I’m just excited to battle it out with Louie and Danny and all of these guys. It was really great to ride today.”
In the final minutes of Winter Dew Tour freeski slopestyle, Tom Wallisch tore through the rail section, starting with a switch lipslide blind 270 on the top down rail, a right foot forward front up blind 400 on the flat down and a switch lipslide front 400 out of the cannon rail.
“I’m trying to convince myself that I’m a second run skier,” said Wallisch. “I get a good mindset, picture myself at the bottom and let my body do the work.”
Kaya Turski made it look easy on in the women’s ski slopestyle finals after struggling in her first run of the day.
The Montreal native kept it stylish and technical starting off with a front switchup on the down bar, into a switch gap to the downbox, to a 180 on the cannon and switch 3 off.
"I have my whole family and friends here with me just trying to keep me calm," Turski said. "I tried not to think about the first run, tried to keep it together. It was a new run, so I was all in."
All of the competitors will have the option to sign over their winnings as a contribution on behalf of freeski icon Sarah Burke.
“Sarah was a friend and an idol,” said competitor Maddie Bowman, following her win at Superpipe. “She was so kind-hearted, and we’re skiing for her always. She’ll never be forgotten for us.”
Over the course of the four day event, approximately 32,000 people experience this year’s Pantech Invitational at Killington Resort. The three stop tour continues to the final event in Snowbasin, Utah, taking place Feb. 9-12 for the Championship.
NBC Sports Network is airing the competitions this week.
