Rutland Opera Theatre of Weston announces Opera Auditions for Youth Singers to be held on March 3 for their new production of “Noye’s Fludde”.
The opera will be performed in Rutland in January 2013.
This one-act opera by acclaimed composer Benjamin Britten is based on a medieval mystery play and tells the story of the Great Flood and Noah's Ark in song, dance, and drama. The production calls for a large cast of performers including the Voice of God, Noye, Noye's Wife, Gossips, Noye’s sons and their wives, and a Children’s Chorus of Animals and Birds. Auditions will be held on Saturday, March 3, at the Opera Theatre of Weston’s headquarters at 100 Dale Rd. in Weston.
The company is looking for a total of thirty children ages 10-17: three boy sopranos or three tenors to perform Noye’s sons, three girl sopranos to perform the wives of Noye's sons, and 24 treble voices for the Children’s Chorus.
Those auditioning should be prepared to sing a short, simple excerpt from the opera for Angela Gooch, OTW Musical Director and Ashley Hensel-Browning, OTW choreographer. Music will be provided when an audition appointment is made.
Unless otherwise arranged, an accompanist from OTW will be provided. Audition appointments should be scheduled by March 1 by contacting Opera Theatre of Weston at 802-824-3821 or e-mailing otw@sover.net.
Performances of Noye’s Fludde will be held in 2013 at Rutland's Paramount Theatre on Jan. 6 (public matinee) and Jan. 7 (morning school show for students), and at the Weston Playhouse on Jan. 9-11 (morning school shows for students) and Jan. 12 and 13 (public matinees).
Opera Theatre of Weston, a professional company member of OPERA America, is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
