Proctor The Proctor High School boys' basketball team recently improved their record to 9-4 on the season, after easily knocking off the Bellows falls Terriers, 52-33, on the road in Westminster.
The start of the game was full of turnovers on both sides, as
Proctor had a 6-0 lead before a 3-pointer by BF sophomore Kendrick Mills got the Terriers on the board. However, Bellows Falls would go stone cold for the remainder of the quarter, as Proctor would build a 13-3 lead by the end of the stanza.
Proctor seniors Matt Scarzello and Ricky Carroll each scored on a couple jumpers and they also started hitting the glass, converting on second-shot opportunities to help build the lead.
It could have been worse, but the Terriers still had quite a hole to dig out of after missing eight consecutive shots in the quarter. "We got some good looks in that first quarter, but just couldn't hit any shots," Bellows Falls coach Evan Chadwick said after the game.
Proctor also played a tough man-to-man defense, which didn't make it any easier.
In the second quarter, however, the Terrier offense would begin to wake up after coach Chadwick replaced all five players on the floor in one shot, and overhaul created a spark. as junior Trevor Wilson hit back-to-back baskets, senior Drew Guild knocked down a shot and a free throw and then a 3-pointer from Wilson got the Terriers back in the game. In fact, BF would outscore Proctor 13-9 in the quarter to trail by a 10 at the half, 34-24.
At the start of the third quarter, Bellows Falls got the lead down to seven points after a couple jumpers from Mills, but that would be as close as they could get, as Proctor would go on a 10-4 run, including three uncontested lay ups to end the quarter with a 36-24 lead.
