Chester Marji Graf, executive Director of the Okemo Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce, was in Chester recently for another one of those whirlwind ribbon cuttings. In a lousy economy, it’s always amazing to see people willing to stand in the batter’s box and take a whack at the American Dream.
Enter dream-seekers Thom and Kate Huntington, new owners of the Country Girl Diner—aka the Home of the All-Day Waffle—located 46 Route 103 South in Chester.
The Huntingtons have created a delightful Vermont retro experience with their awesome 1950s-era diner. You can almost smell the Brylcreem and hear the saddle shoes brushing the linoleum floor.
While breakfast is the best part of waking up at the Country Girl (remember: Home of the All-Day Waffle), lunch and dinner are worth a visit, too. Even the prices look retro—a superb bargain for the budget minded.
The Huntingtons offer daily specials such as warm buttered lobster with scallions on a grilled croissant or chipolte, chicken, bacon, and cheddar quesadillas, etc., etc. Now where else can you go for a meal like that?
“We begin with the freshest seasonal ingredients and add a modern touch to your heartwarming favorites,” said Thom. “That's what the Country Girl is like.”
Is your mouth watering yet?
“The kids menu features hand-breaded chicken strips, nuggets, with our secret breading ingredient. No kid has been able to resist them yet,” said Kate.
If local and Internet comments means anyhting, the Country Girl is getting good buzz.
Adrian D. a popular online restaurant blogger from Jersey City, N.J., is fond of America’s classic diners. She made a special road trip to Chester to sample the Country Girl’s unique breakfast menu which includes homemade waffles.
“The Country Girl is a throw back to the 1950s—including the prices,” Ms. D. said. “You get great service and great pancakes.” She gave the Country Girl a sterling 3.5 stars out of four.
The Country Girl Diner is open seven days from 6:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday from 5:30-8 p.m. The restaurant is closed Tuesdays.
