Ludlow — Despite the ordeal following the Aug. 28 Irene flooding, Ludlow residents were determined to go ahead with the town's annual Rotary Club Chili Cook-Off. As a result, residents of the flood-ravaged community had an great opportunity to have fun on a warm Indian Summer day.
Rotary Club officials named three Irene emergency responders as judges ar rhe 21st Annual Chili Cook-Off.
Richard Harrison, LVFD, Ret., was joined by David Norton of the Ludlow Ambulance Squad as judges.
“These guys kept cool heads through our recent emergency,” said Cook-Off Chairman Glenn Heitsmith. “Who was better to judge hot chili?”
The cook-off took at several spots and under the big tent in downtown Ludlow at the intersection of Main and Depot streets.
Awards will be handed out in three judged categories: “Best,” “Spiciest” and “Team Spirit.” The public gets to vote for their favorite chili, garnering the winner $100 and a nifty plaque from the Rotary Club. Second place paid $50 and $25 went to the third-place chef. Net proceeds from this year’s cook-off benefited the Black River Valley Senior Center and charities of the Ludlow Rotary Club.
