Killington After the Superstar Pub, located at the base lodge at Killington Resort, fell victim to Tropical Storm Irene, the owners quickly replaced the some 250-seat resort staple with two umbrella bars.
In fact, the two structures which are 12 and 15 meters in diameter each, are now currently the largest umbrella bars in North America. The enclosed glass structures dubbed the Roaring Brook Umbrella Bar, features tamarack wood floors, concrete, outside-heated decks and bar furniture created with fine, imported woods.
Roaring Brook recently hosted an invite-only, Specialty Experiences launch party which very some very special guests, including Olympic Skiers Picabo Street and Donna Weinbrect, Brattleboro snowboarder Ian Compton, current top competitor and Lincoln boarder Yale Cousino and extreme skier and video producer Dan Egan.
The event was highlighted by the unveiling of Killington Resort's new skiing programs, including specially-priced weekend packages for January and February which include ski lessons, coaching and video analysis, breakfast and lunch with these skiing personalities.
Holiday Hockey Tournament
In the consolation game of the recent Barry Van Gerbig Holiday Hockey Tournament at Spartan Arena, the Rutland High School boys' hockey team broke a scoreless tie early in the second period, en route to a 2-0 win over a very game Woodstock squad.
Although Rutland dominated most of the play, Woodstock goalie Connor Blair was spectacular, single-handedly keeping his team in the game with a whopping 37 saves in the net. Although they were largely out-matched, Woodstock is a young team and deserves credit for hanging in there with a much bigger and more experienced Rutland team.
The deciding goal was a fluke of sorts, as a shot from Nate Coombs was initially stopped by Blair, but the puck then bounced high in the air and somehow into the back of the net for a 1-0 Rutland lead.
