Police charge Connecticut teens in Chester incident

— On Dec. 26, Vermont State Police troopers of Traffic Operations South, arrested Zarak Chau, 18, of South Windsor, Conn. Chau was traveling westbound on Vermont Route 11 in Chester, near the Springfield town line, when the trooper clocked Chau's vehicle at 90 miles per hour in a 50-mile- per-hour speed zone.

During the investigation, the trooper detected an odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle.

Chau admitted that there was marijuana in the vehicle and that he had smoked marijuana while operating the vehicle.

The trooper, who is a drug recognition expert, screened Chau for driving under the influence of drugs. Chau was arrested for DUI-drugs, excessive speed, and possession of marijuana.

Two passengers in Chau's vehicle, David Barry, 18, and Matthew Dziedziak, 23, both of West Windsor, Conn., were also charged with possession of marijuana.

All the subjects appeared in the Windsor County Superior Court Criminal Division and later released.

Both Dziedziak and Barry are from South Windsor, not West Windsor. There is no West Windsor in Connecticut.
